A Lesson from the Spirit

I walk through a dense spruce forest. Dark. Terrifyingly dark. There is something ominously fearful and innocently beautiful about this wood. In the distance a bright light is visible, and I walk toward it obediently. It is as if an angel descends from the heavens; the sky is bright blue and from it, on a beam of light, white wings come down.
This beam of light is directed at a flower surrounded by the impenetrable forest. Like an island of hope.

“What is this about?”
“About hope. You point to the light because you see the light. Those who see the light go toward it.”
“And those who do not see it?”
“They get lost in this forest.”
“How does one see it?”
“Believe that it exists.”
That is hope, which can overcome ignorance and despair. Hope is nothing other than the naked desire of your soul: hope for love, hope for understanding, hope for trust, for honesty, for kindness and responsiveness from those around you… These are all the desires of your soul.

Your soul cannot cry out openly, only in moments of true pain. Even then, many pass by its needs.
When you begin to feel yourself, to feel the needs of your soul, you will begin to live in harmony with yourself.
And that harmony will begin to manifest not only within you, but outwardly as well.
When you fight with yourself, you cannot move forward; your own ambitions and the secret desires of an unrestrained ego hinder you.
But the moment you turn onto the path of spiritual growth, you will understand the essential difference in your true needs.
What once mattered to you, what you strove for, will suddenly begin to lose its value.
Your ego’s striving runs counter to the desires of your soul. That is the difference between a demand and a desire.
Your ego only knows how to demand, thereby increasing new expenditures of your energy, which is not limitless.
Whereas the desires of your soul fill you with the forces capable of transforming the world.
Learn to see this light, to touch it, to let it pass through you, allowing it to gently and tenderly move through you, filling and transforming you from within. Like a sun shower.
Hope is not expectation. Hope is the gentle, careful desire of your soul expressed as a plea.
This flower is your soul; look how it is transformed, rejoices, exults, radiates the Divine light, fills and fills everything around with its true glow. So be it!

This lesson is about faith in the power of the Spirit, about the soul’s hope and unconditional love for oneself, for others, and for the One Spirit.
