A Lesson from the Spirit
"I will tell you a parable."
"What parable?"
"This parable is told by many, but they still do not understand its meaning."
"I'm ready to listen. Who is it about?"
"About a handsome young man who sought the truth."
"I'm listening."
"The young man wished to know the truth and to tell everyone about it. He spent many days on the road, exhausted by thirst and hunger, torn by winds and the burning sun. He walked through fields and over mountains, passing every obstacle in his path. He carried with him a thick book to record everything he would see when he learned the truth, when he beheld it. He wanted to write his book about it and pass this legacy on to others, what would remain after him—his truth. He carried that book and it grew harder and harder to walk; he weakened, his body gave out, then his spirit began to fall, yet he kept going.
What truth was he looking for? He no longer even thought about that. In moments of despair he regretted his choice and many times wanted to turn aside from the road. He was irritated and angry; the further he went, the more tired he became, the angrier he was with himself and with everything around him. But the desire to know and to prove to everyone that there is such a thing as truth, to leave behind knowledge—the very book he stubbornly bore—wearied him along the way. And when it seemed he had almost arrived, he fell to his knees and could not go on. He understood that it had all been in vain, that he would not be able to write that truth in his book, on his clean pages, that he could not leave that legacy behind.
"Why?"
"He was exhausted by his journey."
"What do you mean?"
"When he took out that book and opened it, he was surprised—every page was filled by himself; the book was about him, each page a part of the story of his path, the story of his soul. Everything was laid out there.
He did not manage to drink from the spring because he had not understood the main thing—Truth is not somewhere else; it is always with you, it is inside you. You only need to let go of your pride and learn to listen to yourself, to trust yourself, to trust the spirit guiding you, to trust the spirit calling to you, and to walk in that trust day by day, to go on learning and discovering something new on the path of your soul's development. Then you will have no regrets, no irritation, no discontent, no anger.
"And what will there be?"
"You will find inner harmony of soul and body, harmony of being, merging into a single whole with all space, feeling yourself as the divine light of the Creator manifested in you.
And each of you writes your own book of the soul, filling it page by page; you are the creator of your book, the writer, the author, the maker. For this you do not need to exhaust yourself, you do not need to trudge relentlessly, oblivious to everything on your way—that is a purposeless path. Each day is your story; each day already is your path in which you learn the truth, if you only listen to your inner spirit, allow your inner response to lead you.
Live each day in delight, in knowing, in full harmony with yourself and with the world around you, in complete trust in yourself and in the spirit that leads you, with an open heart filled with love—true, unconditional love of the Creator.
So be it."
