A Lesson from the Spirit
A black grand piano stands in the middle of an empty hall; a beam of light from the window falls across it. I sit down at that piano, try to play, but I do not know how, and it comes out clumsy.
"To hear the symphony of life—you must learn. Learning is continuous. For to play something new, you must first learn it, come to know it.
Each of you who sits at this piano plays your own symphony of life, your own chords—sometimes minor, sometimes major. These chords are harmonious; they resonate with your soul, pouring out into musical etudes.
Do not stop once you have learned something; keep learning constantly. For when your soul requires you to perform a melody, you may not know how to do it—you will be in ignorance. But if you keep learning, you will be able to go further, conquering new levels of your soul's development.
Approach the instrument with ease, trust, without irritation or unwillingness. Trust your hands, trust the instrument, and you will hear what a wondrous symphony you can compose. And that symphony will answer in the hearts of many. It is not for you and not about you, but so that others may hear that melody. So be it."
"How does one learn spirituality?"
"Do not approach it with irritation, unwillingness, or impatience. Better to wait until the response of your soul tells you when it is time to begin. Approach the instrument with joy, with pleasure, with tenderness and reverence.
What good is it to learn chords in unwillingness, in impatience? You will forget them, and you will have to start over. But if you do it in inspiration, those notes, those chords will remain with you forever."
