A Lesson from the Spirit

“Look how they fuss.”
He shows a stadium and those white gates they set up for horse races. But instead of horses there are people—many of them—crowding in ordinary clothes.
“Look how many people crowd together hoping to go first, hoping to make it in time. Yet even those in front doubt whether they’ve lined up in the right place, chosen the correct lane, or whether somewhere there might be a more interesting, quicker, or easier path.
They do not think about the colossal tasks they will have to master. They are focused on comparing themselves to others: who is taller, who is faster, who is mightier, who is stronger...?
But the fatal thing is that each of them is good at one thing, at his own craft. Trying on another’s trail—first master your own. Who knows, perhaps you will be lucky and, having cast off fears and doubts, you will achieve unprecedented results?
There is no single person who can do everything, but each of you is capable of more than you allow yourselves to imagine.
It is like that stadium where all the lanes are equal. But if you keep peeking at the neighbor and trying to outdo him in something, you will most likely never discover your true potential.
You will go from lane to lane, changing course, yet not moving forward.
“Does a person not need to be well-rounded?”
“I didn’t say that. I only said: it is important to master your own path.
You stand where your way was chosen at the start, so why do you think it is not the same for others?
When you understand that you are who you are and stand where you are destined to stand, imagining yourself walking unhurriedly along a level road, looking at all the beauties around, studying the world, you will reach the true goal.
Knowing yourself is not a quick or easy game, nor a contest with others or with yourself. Where you allow struggle, you will lose.
For one cannot love through rivalry, only through understanding the Spirit of Unity, through the creation of the power of love and the reunification of the Soul’s potential.
When choosing your route you do not choose an opponent; you choose unity.
All doubts and mistrust are the same spirit of rivalry within you; it is the struggle that divides you, that leads you away from unity and harmony.
Release all demands on yourself and on the world around you; let go of martial expectations and countless exclamations. Accept yourself in this world. Take time to enjoy the game of being in which you find yourself.”
