Lesson from the Spirit

A huge stadium. So many people. They’re all shouting something, each their own, impossible to make out. And below some action is taking place, like a game or a show.
“Do you see who’s playing down there?”
“A little. Some.”
“Can you hear the sound from the field?”
“No. It’s hard when the whole stadium is buzzing.”
“Right. Because of that, your presence is incomplete, partial.
To see clearly, to notice, to understand — it’s not easy when there’s bustle all around, complete chaos.
You yourselves create that bustle around you. Intrusive noise, like tinsel, like the semblance of the stage, but that tinsel is only a curtain behind which the real action is hidden. Remove that veil, that curtain, remove the distracting outside sounds and you will see the true life hidden from your eyes. You won’t merely begin to see; you will notice, delighting in the beautiful action of the play, understanding the speech, understanding everything that happens, letting it pass through you.”
“What do you see on that field?”
“Like several different sports on the same field.”
“That’s the variety of the game, variation, choice. Behind all that noise created around you you cannot make out those actions; you cannot be moved by what is happening there. Because you neither see nor hear, you do not understand.
But this field was made for you, for you who sit in the stands, observing the beautiful action unfolding before you, for you.
And as long as you sit like that, folding your hands, allowing all that visual and auditory noise to exist, you will not understand what you like, what your purpose is, what you should strive for.
“What should we do? Spirit, tell us.”
“It’s important not merely to observe, but to understand what is happening, so as to test yourself by the choice necessary for your growth. When you give a clear intention to see what is important and needed for you, you will realize that all the stands in the stadium are empty, all has stilled, and there is only you — sitting in the very center so that your eyes can take in everything happening below, on that very stage which you once recognized, daring and inspired to lift the curtain.
And now there is no noise or chaos, there is only choice, the one that best reflects your striving, your impulse, your purpose for unfolding your true potential.
