Lesson from the Spirit
A parable about the little cook.
"Want to hear a parable about a little cook?"
"A little cook?"
"Yes. Why are you laughing?"
"Nothing, tell it."
"The little cook was a bright boy. He grew up with an open, kind smile and a pure heart.
He often watched and learned from afar, afraid to disturb the great cooks at their work.
But once the ruler dreamed a dream, and in that wondrous dream he tasted a dish the cooks did not know. The king was so upset that he lost his peace and thought only of that dream and the dish he had once tasted.
The cooks shrugged and threw up their hands—how could they prepare a dish that does not exist? How to know the ingredients? How to repeat that masterpiece you have never known? Not easy, right?"
"Yes, it's not easy."
"Then the king resorted to a trick."
"A trick?"
"Yes. He summoned his court and issued a decree promising reward to whoever could prepare that dish."
"But how is that possible?"
"Not possible. Because that dish was something that cannot be tasted. Something that can only be felt. And who can feel another?"
"The chosen one?"
"No. You are mistaken. Not the chosen one, but only he who is pure in heart, who wants to see, hear, and feel more than others, who lives with an open heart, manifested by the Creator's love. Only such a one can hear another's voiceless cry. And in that silence, our little cook solved the secret. The very ingredients no one else knew.
He prepared that dish and served it
to the king, the ruler. But not as an offering for reward. Rather, as help to one who in his thirst asks for water.
When the king, the ruler, tasted that dish, woven from pure selfless love and acknowledgment, from respect and honesty, he took him into his kitchen as head cook.
But not because he had exactly replicated the king's dish, but because he had brought him precisely what the ruler had long sought."
"That is very beautiful!"
"Thank you. You know, many search for something, some illusion within themselves, failing to notice their soul's true need. How often you are mistaken in blindly following ignorant desires that do not reflect your spiritual essence!
When disappointment gnaws at you over some dreams, some people, some surroundings in which you feel irritation, simply remember this parable. Let it fill you with that warmth, that selflessness of a pure open heart, true insight through the Creator's unconditional love for you. So be it.
Remember this parable and let it fill you with the true divine light of the Creator, unveiling to your sight what is important and needed, what your soul requires, accepting the gifts entrusted to you by the Creator as that unconditional, indisputable, truly important thing for yourselves.
