A Lesson from the Spirit

“You pose when you read yourself.”

They show a book, old, worn. Someone is gluing it, stitching it with golden threads.

“You like to embellish yourself, giving yourself courage, importance, steadiness, character, greatness. That’s not bad, but far more important is to drink from a pure well. The clarity of your thoughts, the clarity of your deeds, intentions, actions, your beliefs — these are far more valuable than the veil with which you wrap yourself as if in a mantle. Embroidered with gold and jewels, it does not become more valuable in the eyes of others, only in yours.

Accept yourself as you are. Without false expectations and ornament. You lose much, you miss even more, striving to please yourself.

‘What’s wrong with decorating the book?’

‘Nothing. But when you do that, you hide behind all this glitter your true visage. You hide, and therefore you do not know yourself, and therefore you are not able to help yourself in your spiritual development, not able to heal yourself, to guide, to suggest, to comfort and to assist. Because behind the brightness of all that tinsel you simply do not see yourself.’”
