A Lesson from the Spirit

- Expect more, while hoping for less.
- Tell me about that—what does it mean?
- When you strive for something, when you think about something, remember that that something is only part of something greater.
- What is this lesson about?
- About your trust. To be able to trust yourself, to trust the space around you, to trust the higher forces that guide you. When you learn to accept the small, greater things will be given to you. You have grown used to taking many things for granted, through humility, through patience, through expecting better. But that is not acceptance. Acceptance is to see the potential for your spiritual development, to reveal this lesson to your sight. Through understanding, through awareness, through vision, through lightness comes acceptance. Often, only when you stand at the threshold and beg alms, content with little, do you receive far more than expected. Not because you did not expect it, not because you did not believe in it, but because you accepted the small.
- Is materiality bad?
- Spirituality and the material are not opposites. The degree of your spirituality depends only on your perception. You may be rich, you may be poor, and in both places you can be dissatisfied— the rich with greed and envy, the poor likewise— and in either case there will be no spirituality. But when you show care for your neighbor as for yourself, you thereby show care for yourself, tending to your own spirituality. In other words, if you choose the path of spirituality, walk it— but walk confidently, with ease, trusting your step, without looking back at the past, without yearning about the future, in lightness and serenity, and in the one light. For if you sow darkness within yourself, darkness you will grow.
