A Lesson from the Spirit
- What is the lesson about?
- About your talents.
To manifest talents does not mean to show them to the world. It means to find them and accept them within yourself.
If you are an artist mounting an exhibition of your work and at the same time you fear a bad review, you erase all your effort by that fear.
- Why?
- Because it is far more important to accept your talent than to reveal it to the world.
You fuss a lot, you do many things you do not accept in yourself.
- What good does that do?
- You must express your talents without fear and doubt. Where you doubt, you will be upset by any remark made about what you do.
- How should I understand the answer?
- If you have accepted your talent and your work, you will easily receive any ill-wisher, any dissenter, even an envious person. Because you will live in the recognition of your own worth and the worth of the talents you possess.
- But what about training? Learning to draw or a craft? That is also correction.
- Training only points the direction of your activity; you choose the route of its realization yourself. There are always those who teach and guide, and that is not bad. But you must not doubt. If you accept a teacher's remarks, do so only as your own convictions, where you are confident in the correctness of the words spoken to you.
- What is this for?
- It affects your thinking, it affects your way of perceiving the world, the method of influencing yourself and those around you.
Talents are not only a craft, not only drawing or writing; a talent can be any work done by you with love and inspiration. Whether it is preparing a meal or cleaning the house. Doing something inspired, with love—do it without doubt.
Doubts about work created with love and inspiration give rise to doubts in yourself, in your own feelings and sensations. This is much deeper than you thought. And it will become increasingly difficult for you to trust feelings of love, to trust inspiration, if you do not trust your talents. If you do not develop them, you will not develop yourself.
