When we break up a family, when we choose ourselves, our own happiness, is that a terrible act? Unforgivable? But no one prevents the people we leave from continuing on their path, from pursuing their spiritual growth. And when we don't allow a loved one to do the thing they dream of, the thing in which they see their own development, what is that? Is that good? Yet many live that way, live without thinking that when we exert pressure on a loved one it is far worse than leaving them. We keep them in invisible vices, cutting off their oxygen, not permitting them to develop, trying to impose our path, our vision on them. How often do we think about this?
Restricting someone's will can be worse than letting them go, even against their will. But at least in that way we give them a chance to live the life they themselves choose.
