A Lesson from the Spirit

Opposite me is a low white picket fence; behind it grow astonishing flowers. The Spirit waters these flowers, nourishes the plants’ roots, sets supports for some.

“Can a weed grow here? When you care for something with attentiveness—thinking, enjoying, admiring, anticipating the beauty that is to grow here—why do you forget that?”
“What is this?”
“This is about growth.”
“Growth of what?”
“Of your soul. You do not reflect on who you are when you act, speak, think.
Do you think about who you are?
Many come to this realization too late to perceive it in time; others do not wish to know, continuing to live as it is convenient.
But what are conveniences to you?
Simple truths, things that lie on the surface around you, are taken by you as given. And so they are, except that your perception is different from what the Creator intended.
You can project onto the world only what you are yourself. When you complain about injustice, dishonesty, rudeness, prejudice, inhumanity… Answer yourself honestly then—where do you show your own humanity, the honesty and rightness of your thoughts and deeds?
The seed of truth is hidden within you, so deep that at times you do not want to see it. Whatever you feed on yourself, that is how you grow, that is how you bloom and bear fruit, like these plants. Reflect on that.
What feeds you? What are you already giving to the world, and what could you give?
Do you seek justice, peace, happiness, love?
Look inside yourself; you will find all the answers there.
“What do you mean?”
“You are not merely people—biological organisms; you are a soul. That is the original, the permanent thing that is in you. If you forget this, do not promise and do not grumble at your fate.”
“What are you trying to say?”
“All that you seek around you is within you. If you turn to yourself, repent and ask for help, you will begin to transform from within, transforming everything outside. The world is not cruel if you do not show cruelty—whether toward others or toward yourself. Learn to live in harmony with yourself. Very often you are cruel and unjust toward yourselves, yet you look for that in others, bind yourselves to their deeds, not seeing and not understanding that this is you.
As soon as this awareness comes to you, everything will begin to change not only within you but around you as well, transforming, altering the course of events, revealing to your sight all the better and purer things given to you.
So be it.
