Lesson from the Spirit
You have forgotten how to hear yourselves simply because you grew proud above God’s creatures. You became proud not of the whole world, but of yourselves, and so bound yourselves in tight fetters.
It seems to you that this is not so, that you are free and at liberty to do whatever you desire, but that is only an illusion.
True desires are atoned for by deep pain down there, deep inside each of you. That pain answers with a quiet moan, a pressure, when you remain in silence.
As soon as you sink into the silence of your own stillness, the inner contemplation of the Creator’s beautiful work, you begin a wholly different game. All that tinsel and noise—the things you wanted, the things you strived for, the things you idolized as necessary for you, as the power you sought in order to be whom? First? But in what and where?
The right of being first is the right of truth, of the truth sounding in silence.
Look at the nature before which you once grew proud. What will you hear?
You will hear many sounds: a bird’s song somewhere up there high in the sky, the crack of branches, even a faint rustling beneath the earth. All these sounds are barely audible, because nature is wiser; it has not tortured its right to truth. That truth still lives as a whisper inside nature. They do not fuss, they do not shout, they do not make noise, they only listen, because they know how to hear.
That is why they can foresee those troubles that may pass them by. And this is not only about natural phenomena.
When you plunge into the state of silence, into the quiet hush, the sounding of your own soul, you will begin to feel a way out, to foresee that storm which might hinder your ascent to the One Spirit.
But while you enjoy the game of the many, wishing to be first among them, you only become last to yourself. And what do you behold?
Ruin, disappointment, as if something restless has settled inside you. Yet you know the way home.
Having once left it, you likewise know how to return. It is enough merely to wish. It is enough merely to return to the beginning of beginnings, to where in silence the quiet word was born.
Hear that word as a light, unobtrusive sound within you, the pure beating of good thoughts and the contemplation of the magnificence of all that happens within you. As the highest aspect of the manifestation of your spirituality.
