Lesson from the Spirit

A field surrounded by mountains, snow—it keeps falling, falling, then everything quiets. The Spirit walks ahead of me. I try to step exactly in his footprints. But my footmark still remains there. I stopped.

“Are you walking after me?”
“Yes. I’m trying. What is this lesson about?”
“About blessing.
Do not be afraid to step after me. Walk boldly. You will walk, and others will walk behind you, and each will leave their own print. But it will be hardest for those first ones—for they blaze the trail, they trample it down for others so that they will not wade through a drift. So that their path will be easy and clear. It is upon you to trample that path, to go first and first behold the truth—there lies your reward.
Those who follow you are not lagging, for they are walking. They walk with faith and truth on their lips and a flame in their hearts.
Go and do not fear getting lost on the way, for I will show you the road. Do not fear turning the wrong way, for you are already walking the path I have drawn.
Those who go ahead do a good thing for all. For they bear the burden of pioneers, the burden of the world’s snowdrifts. You walk so that it will be easier for others.
You walk to give others light and the hope to find truth.
“Where are we going?”
“To the Light of God. We go to the knowledge of all that is, to the contemplation of truth. Your intentions in seeking the Light of God are inscribed by goodness.
Do not fear and do not dread your road, for every walker will see the truth. So be it.”

“And what of the others?”
“Those of you who do not walk—that is not evil. Each will complete the road according to their readiness, according to the measure in which they realize the significance of this way.”
