Lesson from the Spirit

Yesterday the Spirit showed me a desert. Sand. I sift it through my hands — golden sand. In some places the sand swirls in whirlwinds, in others just rolling dunes. I sit, letting grains pass through my fingers — from one hand to the other. The Spirit asked,

“How many grains of sand?”
“I don’t know, an uncountable number.”
“Correct, like your actions. You obsess over your deeds, sorting them, replaying them in your head again and again. Regretting what you did, or what you might have done. But that’s only a waste of time. These actions are needed for you to stand up. Look at that dune — it is a road. These deeds are meant to serve you as the road you walk. But you bury yourself so deep that sometimes you become completely stuck in the shifting sands. The more you resist, the more you think about what you did or what you could have done, the more you stay stuck, the more the quicksands pull you under. But if you understand that all these actions are for your own growth, the grains will begin to adjust themselves under you, pushing you out of the abyss, pushing you to the surface so you can walk forward along the sand of your road.

It is very important not to forget why life is given to you — to know yourself, to know God within yourself. All the deeds you perform on your road are not made to stop you; they are for your growth. It is you, by your intention, by your will, who allow yourself to stop, to sink into the shifting sands, to freeze — choosing that instead of development, instead of knowing, instead of understanding who you are and why you are here.

As soon as you allow yourself to realize this — the grains themselves will line up beneath you, pushing you out of the abyss, arranging and showing the way forward — your true path. So be it.
