A Lesson from the Spirit

“You see how easily the stones crumble underfoot.
We are standing somewhere very high, on a large rock, like a big slab, and under this slab are many tiny little stones.”

“Many only notice this big slab when they come here. Many have done so before you. You saw the little stones beneath the slab. Why?”
“When I stepped, I heard some crunching under my feet. Then I looked and saw the small stones.”
“You saw because… what? Because you were attentive to yourself, and you came here with trust, with trust in this space.
That means you heard and saw because you wanted to. Many people fail to notice the obvious, even what lies right under their feet.
People are used to climbing steps, going somewhere without noticing where they place their feet, only looking forward.
You put up with a lot in life, and that is what you do.
When one place doesn’t satisfy you, you look for another place, another location, other people, not understanding that the steps will be the same there. Because they are all built to the same order.
“What are you trying to tell me, Spirit?”
“Many stray from the path because they do not know what they are seeking, do not understand the purpose.
As soon as you lose confidence, you lose your balance; these little stones seem to be washed out from under the great steps, and feeling some instability, you try to get down quickly, to find another way.
But what are these stones?”
“Our fears?”
“They are you yourselves, various manifestations of you. It is hardest to run away from yourself.
You choose another path, another route, but the staircase remains the same, its structure remains the same. What good is choosing the path then?
“And what must be done, Spirit?”
“Believe in yourself, in your strength. Understand that your internal disunity is those stones which, being washed from beneath the step you stand on, rob you of balance and force you to fall.
You will understand that the step you climb is not the important thing, but what that step rests on, what is its foundation — that is you.
When you realize this and unite within yourself as one whole organism, you will rise easily, no matter which road you choose. For there, on that road, you will see not merely steps leading upward, but you will carry yourself along by a confident, sure stride.
And where there is confidence, trust is born. And in that trust acceptance awakens in a cloud of love. You are all of this together: the foundation, the choice, and the path. And where you touch with your understanding the true goal, there is born the path of true ascent to your spiritual essence, for the sake and the good of all beings and of yourselves.”
