A Lesson from the Spirit

A Parable of the Lost Sun.

Once there lived a great ruler. His power spread across boundless lands, an invincible army, and countless treasures. Power dazzled him, indulged and warmed him.
But one day his young daughter rebelled against his rule.
He realized he was losing her. He was angry at her, not knowing that his anger was only at his attachment to her, seeing it as his weakness. He did not understand that a person's strength sometimes lies in his vulnerability.
So he banished her, deciding forever to uproot that weakness from his heart.
Having acted so, he could not see why he sank deeper into despair and an unknown illness.
He did not yet understand that all those illusions that once dazzled and warmed him were nothing. Not real.
The true sun, however, was within him, and lived as long as there remained even the slightest hope for humanity.
Light is hard to lose once found; it is far more difficult to find it.
But when at last he understood this and took his daughter back, the light within him began to burn so strongly that he recognized and realized the mistakes of those oppressive years.
For when you kindle the sun within yourself—the true light of the soul—one day you will no longer want to wander, for the desire to keep the true sun within you is stronger than any gleam of the illusory sun of empty desires…
